Alia Bhatt Honours Maharashtra’s Heritage In Handwoven Paithani Nauvari Saree

Alia Bhatt arrived on the World Audio Visible and Leisure Summit (WAVES) 2025 in a customized Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla Paithani saree. The beautiful saree was crafted by the artisans of Tulsi Weaves. Based on the designers, Alia’s handwoven Paithani, from Yeola in Maharashtra, took 75 days to finish. The saree was worn within the basic Nauvari drape by the actress. She paired her Paithani with a customized sleeveless shirt, intricately hand-embroidered in resham, pearls, and crystals—placing the proper steadiness between custom and fashionable glamour.

Alia’s outfit and look was a tribute to Maharashtra. Her hair was styled in conventional Maharashtrian Khopa.

The origins of the Paithani saree may be traced again 2nd century BC to the time of Satvahana Dynasty, and was produced within the medieval city of Paithan close to Aurangabad. The Paithani was named after the city of Paithan and made with pure gold wire with cotton and silk.

In the present day, the sarees spun in Paithan and Yeola are made utilizing silk produced in India, principally from Bengaluru, and zari from Surat.
