Did Shivaji have a pet canine?
Legend has it that ‘Waghya’ was a mixed-breed canine of the Maratha emperor with tales even suggesting that the loyal canine leapt onto Shivaji’s funeral pyre and immolated itself following the emperor’s dying. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) claims there is not any documentary proof to help this story, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati stated in his letter. The previous MLA, in his letter to the Maharashtra Chief Minister, dated March 22, has pressured that the canine’s memorial must be eliminated earlier than Could 31.
“A number of many years in the past, a memorial of a canine named Waghya was erected close to that of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the Raigad Fort, his capital within the seventeenth century,” his letter learn. “Nonetheless, there isn’t any documentary proof regarding Waghya, the title of the pet canine of Shivaji Maharaj. As there isn’t any such proof, it’s an encroachment on the fort, which is legally preserved as a heritage construction,” he added.
