The first poster for Sony’s Karate Kid: Legends has been unveiled. The upcoming legacy sequel will be the sixth installment in The Karate Kid film series and the first to feature both Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
The official X account for The Karate Kid franchise posted the official Legends poster, which places the series’ new protagonist, Li Fong, played by Ben Wang, front and center striking a pose. As for Chan’s Mr. Han and Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso, they appear as headshots behind Li Fong. “Legends are forever,” the post is captioned. Check out the official poster for Karate Kid: Legends below.

Cobra Kai Actor Reveals Ralph Macchio Is ‘Nervous’ About Facing Jackie Chan in Upcoming Karate Kid Film
Jacob Bertrand says his Cobra Kai co-star gave him the inside scoop about the upcoming movie.
Karate Kid: Legends is unique in that it brings together the worlds of the Miyagiverse — a term coined by the Cobra Kai creators to refer to any project in The Karate Kid franchise that featured Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi — and the 2010 reboot, which starred Chan and Jaden Smith and was previously believed to have taken place in a separate continuity. However, since the 2010 reboot featured new characters and only replicated the original Karate Kid movie’s storyline, it was seemingly easy to retcon the movie into the original timeline.
While plot details for this next installment remain largely under wraps, Sony has confirmed that Legends will revolve around Li Fong, a Chinese fighter-in-training, finding “strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two),” suggesting that both Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han will train Wang’s character.
Karate Kid: Legends Is Full of Familiar Faces
Besides Macchio, Chan, and Wang, the cast for Karate Kid: Legacy includes Sadie Stanley (The Goldbergs) as Li Fong’s romantic interest, Joshua Jackson (The Mighty Ducks) as her father Victor, and Shaunette Renée Wilson (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) as Ms. Morgan, with Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Aramis Knight (Ms. Marvel), Wyatt Oleff (It), and Jennifer-Lyn Christie (Mother!) cast in undisclosed roles.

Cobra Kai star Jacob Bertrand teases that the Netflix show’s impending conclusion might not be the ending that everyone is hoping for.
Is Cobra Kai Canon to Karate Kid: Legends?
While Karate Kid: Legends was likely greenlit due to the success of Cobra Kai, a legacy sequel series picking up with Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence 30 years after the events of the original film trilogy, the show’s creators — Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg — are not involved with the new movie, much to the chagrin of some of the fandom.
This exclusion worried parts of The Karate Kid fandom, with many fearing that Legends would contradict the events of Cobra Kai, causing the franchise to be split into two separate timelines. Luckily, Macchio eased fans’ worries in July 2024 when he confirmed that Daniel LaRusso would be the same version from the Netflix series in Legends. “But yeah, it was important to me. Mainly, to me, it was about always being true to LaRusso,” the actor explained. “I tried to play truth in 1983 when I originated this character, and still always, throughout Cobra Kai.”
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle from a screenplay by Rob Lieber, Karate Kid: Legends is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
